Ashtanga Sunday Specials with Elise Greenspoon
The practice of Ashtanga Yoga is an incredibly powerful tool for transformation. Simply by committing to bending and breathing a few times a week, a beautiful process is set into motion: we develop a greater understanding of our bodies, our minds and our habits, and clearly see what is helping us to feel at our best, and what no longer serves us. Although this process happens automatically and effortlessly, it doesn't take us very long to start to cultivate an interest in the philosophy of Yoga, to understand what is happening on the mat, and how to apply the principles of yoga off the mat.
Join Elise Greenspoon for two back-to-back Sundays of Mysore style practice, followed by a light-hearted philosophy session, exploring some of the fundamentals of yoga philosophy, how to integrate changes that have been occurring in our lives, and discover small steps to help us feel a little bit lighter and live in a more harmonious way. Sunday January 26 and February 2 |
Program
Both Sundays start with a Mysore Style Ashtanga Yoga class:
8:00-10:00 Mysore Style Ashtanga Yoga
All levels are welcome!
Mysore style is a way of practising yoga that is incredibly beneficial. Instead of being guided through the postures, students are working on their own practice, at their own pace and are given personalized adjustments and instructions. If you are not familiar with the Ashtanga Vinyasa sequence, have no fear! You will be given a short and manageable practice that will lay the foundation to build your own practice!
The Morning Mysore Style Ashtanga practice is followed by a yoga philosophy talk, the topics for each Sunday are:

26 January
10:30-12:30 "Yamas and Niyamas: Less Dramas" The Yamas and Niyamas are the first two limbs of the Ashtanga Yoga process. They are suggested guidelines and practices that have been offered to the yoga practitioner, in order for us to cultivate peace, meaning and fulfillment in our day to day lives. In this two hour philosophy session, we will understand the Yamas and Niyamas and develop tools to integrate these principles. |
02 February
10:30-12:30 "The Magic of Asana: Understanding how the postures heal our bodies, minds and beings" The yoga postures bring incredible benefits, not only to our physical bodies, but also to our spirit. In this two hour philosophy session, we will explore the "Kosha System" and develop an understanding of the layers of our being. As we discover more about the body/mind/being complex, we gain a deep understanding of how a dedicated yoga practice can help us to maintain a harmonious balance within. |
