Ashtanga Weekend Workshop:
Vinyasa Count
November 14-15, 2015

Have you ever worked with a "cheat sheet" in your practice and wondered what those numbers mean? Or do you find yourself easily distracted in your practice? ...Or both? Come learn about the vinyasa count system!

The Ashtanga Yoga system consists of a sequence of poses that are joined together intelligently.  The vinyasa count is a very important ingredient herein and a toll to foster more focus, space and meditative quality in our practice. The vinyasa system enables a deeper understanding of each asana, and the practice itself. An essential part of the practice and very worthwhile to start to explore!

In this workshop you will learn all about the vinyasa count, what it means, and what it can mean for your practice.
We will apply and research the vinyasa count in our practice and explore it in a way that you become as familiar with it to use it in your practice. Altogether this workshop will give you the tools to apply the vinyasa count in your own practice, and find more focus and space in your practice.

This workshop is suitable for all ashtanga practitioners.

A week prior to the workshop you will receive a little bit of study material to help you make the most of the workshop.
The preparation for this workshop will take you no more than 10-15 minutes, but it is not to be underestimated.

What will we do?

Both days we will start with:
  • a guided meditation and a guided pranayama.
  • Subsequently we will explore yoga philosophy and texts (yoga sutras) that apply to the vinyasa system.
  • From there we will play with numbers and really dig into the fundamentals of the vinyasa count in theory.

But before to long and getting to heady we will surely get onto our mats and start to explore and apply the count for ourselves in great depth:
ON SATURDAY
we will explore and apply the vinyasa count of the sun salutations and fundamental (standing) poses,
after this comprehensive excursion you finish your practice in Mysore style.
ON SUNDAY
the first part of the class will be a led traditionally counted class through the sun salutations and fundamental poses (excellent for            reviewing the count when in "action")
followed by exploring and researching the vinyasa count of the sitting poses until (and including) navasana (boat pose),
afterwards you finish your practice in Mysore style.

On both days we will finish with discussing practical guidelines on how to incorporate the vinyasa count in your practice and with Questions & Answers.

For both days you will receive study materials to better follow the workshop.
