Class Descriptions

Ashtanga Mysore Style

Practicing in the Mysore style yoga format is the traditional way of learning Ashtanga yoga. Practitioners will benefit from receiving direct one-on-one guidance from the teacher, and will grow in their practice with a gradual step-by-step approach respecting the student's pace.  A class where beginners practice alongside more seasoned practitioners. A setting for community and real self-growth.

Practitioners in a Mysore class receive individual supervision and adjustments, much more than what is possible during a led (talk through) class.  With a little bit of time, teacher and practitioner get to know each other, and the teacher will understand the unique needs of each practitioner and fine-tune practice according to the physical, energetic and mental constitution of each practitioner - respecting your own pace and capability.

To attend our classes no previous experience is needed. More about the Ashtanga Mysore practice below, best is just to come and experience for yourself!

Ashtanga Yoga

Ashtanga yoga is a unique, dynamic and traditional  yoga system that combines breath with movement. Postures (asanas) are followed in an especially designed sequence, targeting different systems of the body as well as the mind in an intelligent manner – helping the practitioner towards balance in body and mind.

When done with awareness, the practitioner will perceive a meditation-like state during practice.  Breathing through confronting postures, learning to accept one’s limits while creating more space by searching the limit – body and mind will respond intelligently (and beautifully) leading the practitioner to experience more strength and flexibility in body and mind – on and off the mat.

Practitioners start their ashtanga journey with the Primary Series, the first series of Ashtanga Yoga.  The Primary Series, also called Yoga Therapy, serves to strengthen and detoxify the body and the mind. Practicing the sequence of the series in the correct order with the help of  the keys assets of ashtanga yoga: vinyasa, breathing and using the bandhas results in the production of intensive internal warmth. This heat purifies muscles and organs, expelling unwanted toxins as well as releasing beneficial hormones and minerals.

Yin & Restorative Yoga

Slow down your pace with this gentle practice.  Deepen self-awareness & introspection, strengthen acceptance and detachment. Feel nurtured and safe. Suitable & beneficial for all.

Yin and Restorative Yoga targets the interior, supportive structures, the fasciae, literally down to the bone marrow. In contemporary society, restorative / yin yoga is a soothing elixir to help us restore balance in our stress-filled, over-scheduled lives, where most of us ask and expect a lot from ourselves. Besides the Wednesday evening class I offer a bi-monhtly long Yin & Restorative Session (see dates).

Moon Sequence

The Moon Sequence is an alternative therapeutic vinyasa krama sequence designed by Matthew Sweeney (author of Ashtanga Yoga As It Is and Vinyasa Krama) accessible to students of all traditions. This sequence will help you rebalance energetically, psychologically, and physically.

The moon sequence, as a more soft and gentle asana practice provides a balance to the more yang ashtanga practice. By practicing an alternative sequence regularly, you can decrease the likelihood of strain and overuse injury and you can also learn to tune into how the seasons and the phase of the moon affect and influence your body and mind.

I offer the Moon Sequence once a month as an alternative practice during the Friday Morning Led class.
