Traditionally Astanga yoga is not taught in Mysore style on moon days (days when there is a full or a new moon), as the potential for injury is greater. Mysore class is changed to self-practice on these dates:
Wednesday 06th ○ full moon
Wednesday 20th ● new moon
Thursday 05th ○ full moon
Thursday 19th ● new moon
Saturday 04th ○ full moon
Saturday 18th ● new moon
Sunday 03rd ○ full moon
Monday 18th ● new moon
The Moon Sequence is an alternative therapeutic vinyasa sequence designed by Matthew Sweeney (author of Ashtanga Yoga As It Is and Vinyasa Krama) accessible to students of all traditions. This sequence will help you rebalance energetically, psychologically, and physically.
The moon sequence, as a more soft and gentle asana practice provides a balance to the more yang ashtanga practice. By practicing an alternative sequence regularly, you can decrease the likelihood of strain and overuse injury and you can also learn to tune into how the seasons and the phase of the moon affect and influence your body and mind.
In the weekly Wednesday classes the basics of the Moon Sequence are taught.
Maxi has been practicing the Moon Sequence for a few years, and recently completed the 300h Moon Sequence Teacher Training succesfully when she gained authorization by Matthew Sweeney to teach the Moon Sequence.
is potentially open for all practitioners who practice at least once per week and have been practicing with us for at least one month in the studio. Self-practice in a group setting is very beneficial, it allows you to do your practice while being supported by the joint energy built up by everyone practicing in the space. Furthermore, it facilitates the step towards home practice. During a self-practice no teacher is present to assist you, you do your practice. In self-practice, you, of course, can leave earlier (just like in Mysore class) as you are done. To have access to self-practice one has to first agree to the self-practice terms with Maxi.
Yoga Therapy Consultations
The Mysore practice is a form of yoga therapy in itself, as practice is individualized to fit the needs of the student in a group setting.
In private yoga therapy settings the focus is just on you, it involves an intake and progress evaluation. Yoga therapy targets all aspects of the body-mind network and is, thus, a holistic and integrative therapy, which enhances embodied awareness. Increased embodied awareness through means of yoga therapy has been shown to improve emotional regulation (stress resilience) and emotional resilience, impulse control, self-compassion, interoception (attention to momentary bodily sensations), empathy and mindfulness - altogether beneficial in managing the demands of our busy lives, chronic sympathetic activation (chronic stress), restlessness and anxiety.
